Scott’s Journey to Money Mentor

You can call me Scott, but my students call me Professor G. This is my journey to money mentor.

My earliest money memory is saving my allowance and birthday money to buy a toy when I was seven years old. I went to the sales counter with my piggy bank (a ceramic pig that I still have) and dumped out coins and crumpled dollar bills. To this day, I value the ability to save for future goals.

I have been a college professor for over twenty-five years and was even named Michigan Professor of the Year (2008). I vividly recall as an undergraduate when my favorite professor asked if I had considered teaching since he observed how much I enjoyed helping my fellow students. That “light bulb moment” led me to graduate school to become a computer science professor. I earned my Ph.D. in 1993 and started my academic career. My passion was, and remains, undergraduate education.

My transition to financial advisor began in 2005 when I took courses to earn the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation. I have been a trusted source of financial advice for friends, family members and the occasional client ever since while remaining a full-time professor.

We have a lean staff at Socrates Financial Planning. I am the sole human employee. However, Daphne (the dog pictured to the right), serves as receptionist and greets clients with an enthusiastic tail wag. Toby and Teddy (the cats) serve as night watchmen.

I look forward to helping you achieve confidence and clarity with your personal finances. Please e-mail or schedule a FREE introductory call. I will learn more about your questions and concerns and then we can decide if it will be beneficial to work together.
